FAQ

What is Starcraft 2?

Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty is a sci-fi military real-time strategy (RTS) video game for the PC/Mac in current development by Blizzard Entertainment. It is the second game in the Starcraft series which began with the release of Starcraft in 1998. Set in the 26th century, Starcraft 2 spins the tale of a three-way clash between very different species: the Zerg, an advanced race of parasitic insectoids, strive to assimilate all sentient life in the galaxy into their own being; the Protoss, a highly advanced humanoid race, seek to quell the Zerg threat; and the Terran, human exiles from Earth, fight for survival amidst it all.

Why is this such a big deal?

Starcraft 2 is the sequel to the world-wide hit Starcraft, which has sold over 11 million copies worldwide since its release in 1998. As one of the best-selling games ever, Starcraft is still played to this day by tens of thousands of players daily. Praise from many of the gaming industry’s journalists coin Starcraft as one of the best and most important video games of all time; the first video game with ongoing cross-continental competitive play, Starcraft has most certainly raised the bar for developing real-time strategy games. In South Korea, professional Starcraft players form teams, participate in matches/tournaments, earn sponsorships, and compete in nationally televised tournaments.

Why make a launch party?

We, the organizing team, are exorbitantly excited for the launch of Starcraft 2. As a tribute to the most epic game of all time, we would like to share our excitement with all of you. Planned is a night with unheard-of proportions: the best professional gamers from across the world; the first ever implemented SC2 LAN tournament play; artists with some of the most talented Starcraft showcase pieces; and so much more. On top of all this, you’ll get a chance to network with (and play with) people from all across California, even the US! What better way to celebrate the launch of the most anticipated game in the entirety of gaming history?

What if I’m not a Gamer?

Just because you don’t consider yourself a “gamer” doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy yourself! Along with celebrating the game’s launch, attendees will be given a rare opportunity to network with people from all over California as well as the US – surprisingly, the average age of the Starcraft enthusiast is well over the age of 20 (well perhaps not so surprisingly considering the game did come out around 12 years ago)! Attendees involved in the software industry would be surprised at the number of Starcraft fanatics within software developer ranks. Also, innovative artists will be showcasing their original artwork at the event. You won’t want to miss out!
